  • Notes
    • From Docket:

"Margaret Bothum's Grandparents were William and Priscilla Whittington, both of whose wills are in Princess Ann Courthouse."

"The Littleton Heritage" says Margaret is the daughter of Isaac J. Whittington.  This is in conflict with Marguerite Freeney's DAR line which indicates Margaret is the daughter of James Whittington.  As of February 2004 the DAR line is still "open", which I understand means no data has surfaced that brings the line into question.

The DAR line sources were Orphan's Court Records, a photostatic copy of an old diary, Somerset Co. Marriage Bonds, the 1850 census, and the Wills of William Whittington and his wife Priscilla .

      From Marguerite FREENEY Howard:

According to Marguerite FREENEY Howard from a letter written May 24, 1984 to a cousin in California (Jill Harding Prahm):

"Capt. William and Priscilla Whittington had a granddaughter named Margaret (Peggy) Whittington, who married Thomas Bothum (whom her grandparents disliked, according to the will).  Margaret and Thomas Bothum had a daughter named Anne Maria Whittington Bothum, who married John Selby Goslee.  They had 13 children.  Their daughter Emily Goslee married Thomas Barton Freeney"

      From Tim Pryor:

""The Littleton Heritage" does not mention if Issac J. Whittington served in the Revolution, but does mention his daughter Margaret marrying a William Botham. The following excerpt is on p. 22 of "The Littleton Heritage."

"Margaret Whittington, b. c1806; married 1st (lic. Som. 24 Apr 1824) WILLIAM BOTHAM, died 1835/40; 2nd (?Ky. 1841/50) WILLIAM PORTER; removed to Ky. (Lentz). In 1840, as Margaret Botham, she was enumerated in the Lower Dist. of Som. Co., with 4 girls (1 b. 1820/25; 2 b. 1825/30; 1 b. 1835-40)"

      From Docket:

"Margaret Bothum's mother was a Whittington, Sister of James Whittington, large buyer of slaves, heired from his mother" [10, 11]
    • (Research):There is conflicting information on the parents of this person.

      1. The DAR line of Sara Marguerite Freeney shows the following:

      William Whittington b 1740 m Priscilla Polk b 1740
      James Whittington b 1765 m Sarah Coulborne d 1811
      Margaret Whittington b abt 1804 m Thomas Bothum d abt 1843

      2. The GHOTES web site http://www.esva.net/ghotes/whittington/d0/i0006510.htm#i6510 shows the following:

      William Whittington b 1740 m Priscilla Polk b 1740
Issac Joseph Whittington b 1770 m Foster (brother to James)
      Margaret "Peggy" Whittington b abt 1806 m Thomas Bothum d 1843
