      Linda Portwood notes:

      "I had an original  copy of the 1841 census for Thomas and Family and it gives his Address as Hurstfields,  and this is also mentioned in the Inces Pedigree."

      "I found the birth entries for Joseph and William at Matlock Record Office when visiting the area. Hurstfield is again mentioned for Joseph and William,  and their Father Thomas Spencer's  occupation being 'Farmer'.   They are both buried at KirkIreton (near Wirksworth) Derbyshire."   

      "Re Hurstfields, it later became known as Alton Farm (in 1851 census etc).  It still exists today, and is now known as Alton Nether Farm, and is now a Bed and Breakfast place, and can be found on the internet.  However no photo is available.  2 Miles from Wirksworth, and about 4 miles from Matlock."

      "Thomas Spencer  born about 1797     -  Died 15.2.1872 (at Alton Farm/Ideridgehay)   -  Married Sarah Nash (Taylor) 19.10.1826 at St.Mary's Parish Church, Wirksworth." [4, 7, 8, 9]
