  Paul David Couch notes: "On the various censuses after moving to Texas, Drury Couch indicates he was born in Alabama, and we can trace his birth to Lawrence County, Alabama in 1823.  Drury's father, Henry Couch, died in 1837, and Drury is on the 1840 Lawrence Co, Alabama census with his mother: Catherine Couch, as head of household.  Drury would have been 17 years old in 1840, and we know that he married Mary Howell in 1842 in Lawrence County, Alabama, and their first child, Elizabeth, was born in 1843 in Lawrence County, Alabama.  From various census records we find that Drury's wife, Mary Howell was born in North Carolina."
