  Layne - Lain - Layne genealogy notes: "Thomas Lane b. c1662; d 1733 Surry County, Va; m 1685-1693 Jane Flood (dau of John who was son of John Flood of Surry County); Records of Surry County Virginai, Book 3 page 336 in a deed recorded 21 Nov appears Nicholas Smith and Elizabeth, his wife, and Thomas Lane with Jane, his wife, of Surrey County (Elizabeth and Jane being daughters of John Flood, late of Surry County , deceased), and John being the son of John Flood and wife, Margaret Finch, [widow of Wm Finch]; said elder John Flood came to Virginia in 1610 on the "Swan" ____reference, "Adventures of Purse & Person", 1607-1625, page 175, by Hiden." Heather W. Bowers notes: "Thomas JR. LANE was born in 1660 in Surry, Surry, VA. He died in 1740 in Bertie, Bertie, N.C.. He was buried in 1740 in Bertie, Bertie, N.C.. He was married to Jane FLOOD (daughter of John FLOOD). Jane FLOOD was born in (VA). Thomas JR. LANE and Jane FLOOD had the following children: Mary LANE, Rebecca LANE, Thomas LANE." [4, 5]
