- Lundie W. Barlow in his letter of 17 Dec 1944 to Sidney Howell notes:
"No will or record of administration has been found of the Matthew who died in 1802 has been found, but it is obvious that he was the son of Thomas who died in 1795 and the father of the brothers that moved to Georgia -- they sold the land for which Matthew was assessed in 1800 and for which his father, Thomas, was assessed on prior rolls. I hope to find something further regarding this Matthew on my next trip to Raleigh."
"I have no authority for the statement that Matthew Howell married a daughter of Charles Cavenah (Cavenaugh) the younger, except the tradition in the Howell family and the fact that Charles seems to have lived in Halifax [County, NC] before coming to Georgia about 1768 and that Matthew Howell must have married about that time."
"Notes from 1800 United States Census of Halifax County, North Carolina - Matthew Howell (Senior) - 1 free white male over 45 years of age; 2 free white males between 26 and 45; 2 free white males between 16 and 26; 1 free white female between 16 and 26; 3 other persons except Indians not taxed; 5 slaves"
LBSH chart notes:
"Both of Halifax & Edgemont Co's. N.C. and Burke Co. Georgia. Also lived in Taliaferro, Hancock and Greene, Co.s" [2, 7, 8]
