** Update 8 Jun 2007 - Sharron Spencer, the Spencer DNA study manager on FamilyTreeDNA, informs me that the latest most up-to-date results can be found here. **
Our Spencer line is from Oswego Co, NY, and although I have not made a connection yet, the DNA study shows some intriguing possibilities. Even though only Spencer males alive today can participate in the study, the data is still extremely useful in locating the ancestor familes our Spencer's were related to.

Posted by: Teresa Klocke at April 4, 2004 12:03 AMI am a descendant of Meridith Spencer (match group 3) and Esther ???. I would love to correspond with other descendants.
Posted by: Deborah Harmon at May 10, 2004 06:51 PMI am descended on my mothers side, and believe I am also descended on my fathers side. Would descent on my moms side show in the test, or would I only show as descended if I'm descended on my dads side???
Posted by: D R Spencer at July 27, 2004 12:55 AMThese tests just follow a male line -- so it would just be on your Dad's side. If you are male you can submit a DNA sample, if you are female, your dad or your brother (if you have one) would have to.
Im interested in your work as i share the same last name. And possibly a realation.I wonder does your blood line trace back to Nottingham England.Thats were my family immagrated from back in the early 1700's.
Posted by: Benjamin Spencer at August 7, 2004 02:51 AMBenjamin, I have only been able to trace my Spencer line to William Spencer b. 1805 Darbyshire, England -- which interesting enough is adjacent to Nottinghamshire where your Spencer's are from.

Farrel around 1791 and his a British soldier in Montréal in 1800.
Benjamin,
Very interesting!
Do you have your Spencer tree posted on the Internet?
The facts that:
a) my William Spencer spent time in Michigan, to then return to Canada and b) your Michigan Spencer's vacationed in Canada
seem to support the possibility of a connection between my Spencer's and yours in Michigan...but I don't see it yet.
The William Spencer (1805-1846) who is my 3xGGF married Betsy Cherry (1808-1893) in Belleville, ON abt. 1829 Do you have a William Spencer in your tree with the same dates and spouse?
I also have a copy of a family history written by William Spencer's granddaughter, Margaret "Maggie" Stone. She titles the history "Lannoy", as it shows the descent from the De Lannoy's (later called Delano) including the immigrant Philippe Delano who came to America on the "Fortune" in 1621. I have scanned and posted Maggie's document here: http://www.jhowell.com/pics/LannoyByMargaretStoneLowRes.pdf The reference to William Spencer is on p3 as husband to Betsy Cherry.
A list of all of my Spencer's is here -- there are 3 named William: http://www.jhowell.com/tng/search.php?tree=1&lnqualify=contains&mylastname=spencer&fnqualify=contains&myfirstname=&nnqualify=contains&mynickname=&tqualify=contains&mytitle=&sfqualify=contains&mysuffix=&bpqualify=contains&mybirthplace=&byqualify=&mybirthyear=&dpqualify=contains&mydeathplace=&dyqualify=&mydeathyear=¬esqualify=contains¬es=&mybool=AND
